Transportation

Florence is a walking city.

The best way to get from one end of Florence to another is by walking the cobblestone streets. While there are some small cars and vespas that zip around the city, it is certainly easier to walk from end to end with the rest of the commuter population. 

If you are flying into Florence Peretola/Vespucci Airport, the best way to get to the city center is to hop on the tram right outside the airport. This tram is the cheapest and easiest way to get right to the center of Florence. Ride it to the very last stop to be dropped off outside Santa Maria Novella (SMN) train station.

The trains that run through Florence that are capable of getting people to many of the major railroad cities up and down the Italian peninsula.

The simple, and affordable commuter rail is called Trenitalia and is an affordable way to get from Florence to Venice or even the Amalfi Coast. This train makes more stops and is a little slower than its speed train competitor. Italo is the newer and faster train company in Italy that is a bit more expensive for the convience of direct transportation.
