Here are some tips and tricks for packing to visit Europe on vacation or study abroad. *Some tips may be specific to Italy, but can still be considered.
DO
- Pack comfortable walking shoes
- Florence, Italy is a walking city!
- Bring a luggage scale with you abroad
- You’ll need to know how heavy the bag is when you leave the country
- Order a universal outlet converter for Europe & UK
- Bring a reusable tote for grocery shopping
- Markets don’t provide bags
- Have a crossbody pack to keep your possessions close to you
- Bring a Britta water bottle to have free, filtered water on the go
- Pack extra iphone chargers
- Bring a deck of cards or Uno
- Be prepared for any type of weather
- Raincoat
- Scarf, gloves, hat
- Options to layer
DON’T
- DON’T bring full sized toiletries
- It wastes space and weight in your suitcase
- You will be able to buy shampoo, conditioner, etc in bigger bottles abroad
- DON’T pack clothes that you won’t wear
- Choose practical items!
- DON’T bring heels
- *If you are going to a historic city, stilettos will get caught in old cobblestone streets; don’t be the person to sprain your ankle
- DON’T bring lots of athleisure or sweatpants for daily wear
- Europeans don’t wear sweats outside of the gym
- DON’T wear jean shorts
